Corporate Housing Moving Checklist
Moving can be stressful.  If you are moving into corporate housing it may even be more stressful.  Even though you are moving to a furnished location with utilities, cable and internet included, there is still a lot to consider.  Let’s face it, there is a lot to do and consider.  We know it’s easy to forget things.  A quick moving checklist will help you coordinate the details and remember the essentials for the big day.

What’s Included

Each property and location will have different options and amenities which also means what’s provided may be different from location to location.  Check in with the housing provider to see what furniture and home amenities are included.  Most Corporate Quarters locations are fully furnished and include and in unit washer and dryer, all linens and a fully stocked kitchen as well as a tv in the living area and bedroom(s).

Even if everything you need if provided for you, you may want some of your own items.  (I’m very particular about my pillows and take them along as often as I can to ensure a good night’s sleep.)  Start by finding out what’s available in your furnished corporate housing and then decide if you prefer your own, personal items.

Make a checklist of the personal items you need to bring like clothes, medications, work-related materials and toiletries.  Take into account climate or weather conditions for the area you are moving to.  Choose appropriate clothes, shoes and accessories that provide the greatest flexibility and can be matched together to complete multiple outfits.

Plan Ahead

Besides signing your housing contract, consider additional reservations you may need and book as far in advance as possible.  Will you be flying to the new location?  Will you need a rental car?  Also, buy supplies needed for the move including boxes and plenty of tape.  What about your mail – will you have it on hold, or will you need to forward it?  Put a reminder on your calendar to do this closer to your moving date so it’s not forgotten.  Also consider if you have any subscriptions that need to be paused or stopped.

Double-Check

Double-check all of your personal belongings.  Do you have everything you need to get ready each day?  What about work materials, are they on a final checklist or packed?  Don’t forget charging cords and cables.  Make a list ahead of time and then check it one final time a few days before to ensure you have everything and all tasks are complete.

Don’t Forget Essentials and Valuables

No matter what accommodations you’ve secured, there are some essentials you should bring along.  Below is a moving checklist of essentials to consider:

Documents – driver’s license, social security card, passport, birth certificate, insurance policies, credit cards, financial documents and medical records may all be needed depending on how long you will be in corporate housing.  It’s better to be safe than sorry and have these documents with you than trying to figure out how to get them if they are needed.  Consider a small safe to keep these and other valuables in.

Medications – prescriptions and a first aid-kit are things you certainly don’t want to forget.  Make sure you’ve made arrangements for filling prescriptions in advance or in your new location, especially if you’ll be in a different state.

Important Electronics – laptop, phone, camera, music player and all of their respective charging cords and cables.

Pet’s Items – if Fido is joining you, make sure you have their food dishes, bedding, medication, kennel and toys.

Small Tools – these are always handy, so take them along if not provided.  Pocket knife, bottle and can opener, flashlight (with batteries), screwdrivers and a hammer.

Jewelry and Other Valuable Items – consider things with high sentimental value or jewelry that you don’t want to have in a storage unit.  If you don’t want to bring these things along, consider a safe deposit box at a financial institution or leaving these items with a trusted friend or family member.

With a little pre-planning and a good moving checklist, relocating to corporate housing or moving in general will be a lot less stressful.  What do you include on your moving checklist to help make things go smoother?
