Arsenal Park
Baton Rouge’s Arsenal Park is located in the historic district of the city so it’s possible to divide visiting popular places with a trip to this spot. Let the kids run around while you relax on a bench under shade trees and look out over Capitol Lake. Stroll along well-maintained paths to learn names of trees that are identified with plaques. An impressive view of the Capitol building is available from the park. Visit the Old Arsenal Powder Magazine that gives the park its name. Its history includes being taken over by Louisiana citizens shortly after Abraham Lincoln won the presidency and leading up to the Battle of Baton Rouge in 1862.
Red Stick Farmer’s Market
Red Stick Farmers Market is a producer-only market, which means all of the produce a farmer sells under their tent was grown on their farm. Red Sick Farmers Market has over 50 member farmers with a variety of locally grown products including fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, seafood, artisan breads, homemade pies, honey, milk and cheese, native plants, herbs, and specialty food items. The produce selection will vary depending on the season. The market is open from 8am until noon on Saturdays. Arrive early for the best variety as farmers often sell out by the end of the Market.

Louisiana State University is a public land-grant research university in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The university was founded in 1860 near Pineville, Louisiana, under the name Louisiana State Seminary of Learning & Military Academy. Take some time to walk the campus and explore Tiger Stadium, Alex Box Stadium, Mike the Tiger Habitat, Indian Mounds and the Arboretum. Visit LSU’s outdoor stadium, home to the university’s football team. Also known as “Death Valley,” it holds a capacity of 102,321 spectators and is the ninth largest stadium in the world. BREC’s Farr Park Equestrian center is proud to offer guided trail rides on select Saturdays and Sundays. Enjoy a one-hour gentle ride through the park or in the indoor arena on one of the BREC horses. This fun activity is perfect for families, groups and friends. The equestrian center and Farr Park features indoor, outdoor, and arena (both lighted), 256 stalls, a cross-country event course, horse trails and RV campground.
